CITIZENSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY

The Urban Lacrosse Academy provides citizen enrichment, builds leadership skills, teaches good sportsmanship, positive social interactions and opportunities to forge relationships with leaders within the local business and civic community.

WHO WE ARE

With our mission of providing boys and girls within the urban communities around Central Ohio exposure to the game of lacrosse, our goal is to get a stick into the hand of each and every child in these communities.  We want the game of lacrosse to be as familiar for them as any other. Our target age demographic are elementary students, primarily focusing on 3rd through 6th grade because we know if we catch the student at this age group it will be more likely that they will continue to play through middle school and high school and hopefully beyond. We partner with schools, churches, community centers and other groups that share in our philosophy that providing physical and mental conditioning through on-field education can create opportunities far beyond the playing field.

PE Classes In Columbus City Schools
Thanks to Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation and their 75 for 75 iniative, we were awarded $75,000 to use over the next three years to bring high level lacrosse programming into the schools. This acts as the seed for us to begin to grow new community teams.
After School Programming
ULA has partnered with Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services and Whitehall's Y-Ram after-school and summer camp programs to provide an hour a week of lacrosse. ULA brings coaches, players, and mentors out to these sites to get an hour of physical activity and to learn about how to be a teammate, build determination and discilpine and most importantly have FUN!

Urban Lacrosse League
ULA has created a league to allow for new/startup teams to play in a league with other new players and coaches. The ULL gives our after-school sites the opportunity to get on a bus, show up at Saunders Park, wear a jersey, put on the equipment and compete in a bonafide game!
